Deer Repellents

Deer are beginning to help harvest our garden plants and fruits. There is plenty of deer browse available but cultivated plants may be more tender and desirable because of fertilization.

We paid $13 for a dose of deer repellent to use at the Rowser plot and Coordinator Bobby shares this inexpensive recipe provided by a friend:
 No More Deer
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 tbs. cooking oil
1 tbs. dish detergent
1 gallon water
Beat egg and milk together, then add cooking oil and detergent.  Add mixture to water and stir or shake well.  Store in a covered 1-gallon container. Use a tight top to control odor.
Apply liquid to plants (except for edible parts of plants) using a spray bottle.  Reapply every 2 weeks or after heavy rains.

Please send the webmaster a report on your method of control.

Deer are the property of the Commonwealth but citizens are expected to feed them. There are solutions to the deer damage issue. Start by calling the local Game and Inland Fisheries office to report damage and to express your feelings on lack of support by the agency.  (540-899-4169)
